It was the day before Thanksgiving and Jack's family was getting ready for a delicious Thanksgiving feast. Jack's mom was busy preparing the turkey and all the side dishes while his dad and Jack's brother, Steven, were in charge of setting the table. Jack, on the other hand, was asked to decorate the house for the occasion.

Although Jack felt a little bit bad he wasn't helping in the kitchen, he was excited and started to do his best. He gathered some dried leaves from the backyard, tied them around the windows and put a few colorful balloons here and there.

Suddenly, Jack heard a knock on the door, and when he opened the door he saw an old lady with a basket full of oranges. Surprisingly, the old lady was his grandmother. Jack's grandmother had gone away with her sisters when Jack's mother was only a child and hadn't seen his mother in a very long time.

Grandma smiled at Jack and handed him the basket. She said, "These all oranges were grown in my garden. I thought they would make a nice addition to your Thanksgiving feast." She patted Jack on the head, hugged him, and went on her way.

Jack quickly brought the oranges into the kitchen and told everyone what had happened. His mom started to cry — those oranges were a reminder of grandma's love and care. Everyone around the table held hands and said grace with a special thankfulness for the connection among them and for being together on this beautiful Thanksgiving day.
